Generally, efficiency and robustness are preferred for mobile applications, but it depends on the application. Delta Computer Systems sell few controllers to the mobile market, but we do sell some that require precision.
Normally, the control algorithms and target trajectory algorithm is simpler or not needed at all. The target position is generated by the operator and not the controller. However, the computer can learn from the operator and make the motion more efficient and faster. Computer control is going to increase efficiency. I don’t think it is a matter of servo motor, hydraulic servo or stepper cylinders.
I often feel that people do not know how to measure efficiency.
