A limiting factor not mentioned is that the phase lag of the valve must be added to the other phase lags.The sum should not exceed 135 degree in open loop.
The document does not cover valve sizing properly. The document assumes the cylinder diameter is known and is the same on both sides of the piston. The first step should be to determine the diameter of the cylinder and rod given the motion trajectory and mass. Then the valve size can be calculated.
The value for acceleration is not good.The formula calculates the average acceleration assuming a linear ramp.The formula should take into account s-curves.
The pdf file suggests P only control is adequate for most applications. P only control is not adequate for testing,presses and die casting. In general P only control slows production.
